Oké geen gaanvrij.. Maar wat wel?

Bij de Acana die ik geef, zitten geen aardappels. Wel erwten, maar bv ook bessen, wortel, pompoen, enz.
Geen aardappels en ook niet volledig erwten. Nu heb ik er dus echt niet genoeg verstand van om te weten of dit dan ook de opname
belemmerd of dat het heel erg meevalt omdat er geen aardappels inzitten en maar een deel erwten.
Weet iemand dit toevallig?

Volgens mij weet niemand hoe het precies zit en welke mechanismes hier achter zitten. Ik ben nu lid van die fb-pagina die Domor ergens genoemd had en ga eens kijken wat ze daar allemaal vertellen over de onderzoeken. Ik las dit en dit vat het probleem wel een beetje samen:

Somewhere in that mix, something is going wrong. But it's hideously hard to tell what it is, because the small boutique companies (and the big companies chasing the boutique customers) didn't change one thing; they changed fifty things"

Pffff... ja daar is ook niet uit te komen op die manier.

In de brok die ik geef, zitten geen exotisch vlees: kip (ook kraakbeen), kalkoen (ook orgaanvlees), haring en dan dingen als idd erwten, maar
ook pompoen, bessen, wortels, spinazie, enz.

Dus niet het exotische vlees en dan erwten en aardappels (het laatste zelfs helemaal niet).

Mijn hond vindt het lekker, maar volgens mij vreet die alles Ze tobt met haar darmen want ze heeft giardia, dus ik weet niet
of het wijs is de boel helemaal om te gooien en of het überhaupt nodig is.

That's by far the most common first or second question on this group. And trust us, we get it. (And no, we're not paid by anybody.) You've been spending $80 a bag on the dog equivalent of surf and turf for years; you count omega fatty acids with a calculator; you have been telling people to switch off the checkered logo at every opportunity. Your dog has a beautiful coat and nice small poops and she got her MACH on Mrs. Truvio's Victory Sport Food; and anyway *there's no one best food for every dog,* right?

This current issue is not about which food is "best." It's not about luxuriousness of ingredients. Think of it like if you heard that most of the major car manufacturers had been using an iffy alloy in their brakes, but there were two brands that did their own alloy testing and had not been affected by the problem. Those two brands were Ford and Kia. The objection is not not "But Volvos are better than Kias" - they may be better, but they're not safer right now. And until Volvo gets its stuff together and resolves the alloy problem, it would be better for you to drive a Kia.

What the taurine issue has exposed is not "bad ingredients" - it's a failure in the way we've insisted that food companies behave. Instead of asking that they show us years of data showing that their food is safe, we've asked them to give us foods that sound like they should be found on a human restaurant menu, and we've rewarded them for giving us dozens and dozens of formulas, far more than any company could ever test. The taurine problem isn't our fault, but it does show that we need to re-align how we think about dog foods. Companies that have never fed their food to actual dogs shouldn't have the opportunity to be in our dogs' bowls, especially for years and years.

We are not saying that the testing companies (RC, Purina, Mars, Farmina, and we'll add to that list as fast as we can) are making a "better" food. That's in the eye of the beholder. But we are saying that right now it looks like they make a safer food, and maybe you need to drive a Kia for a little while.

Dan zou ik inderdaad even wachten tot je van de giardia bent verlost. En daarna kan je misschien 2 soorten brok voeren, als je dit niet meer helemaal aandurft? De ene maaltijd een 'standaard' brok (voor zover je een brok standaard kan noemen met al die varianten) en de andere maaltijd je huidige brok bijvoorbeeld.

@Barkley: Dat is inderdaad een probleem, het niet (kunnen) testen van hondenvoer. Ik zit er niet helemaal in, maar er wordt volgens mij maar weinig getest. In het verleden waarschijnlijk meer, toen dat nog allemaal mocht, maar tegenwoordig zijn het volgens mij vooral smaaktesten. Al geloof ik dat er in Amerika wel verder getest wordt.
Het is alleen niet mogelijk om voer te testen over de hele levensduur van een hond of kat. Dus die testen worden heel kort gedaan (als ze gedaan worden), terwijl er mogelijk iets kan spelen als dit taurine probleem en dat pas na een aantal jaar tot uiting komt.

Hier krijgen de oudjes fish4dogs en dat gaat prima

Dat weet je dus niet. En aan individuele ervaringen heeft niemand wat.
Het is gewoon afwachten tot er meer bekend wordt en wanneer je dat nodig vindt alvast je eigen maatregelen (testen, ander voer) nemen.

Het bloed van Jip is getest, en ik zou de resultaten nog delen
Het taurine-gehalte is goed, gelukkig. Het zit eigenlijk precies op gemiddeld. De waarde dient tussen 42 en 224 umol/l te liggen en de gemeten waarde is: 143,8 umol/l

Omdat ik alle hondenbrokken altijd online bestel, kon ik ook nog gemakkelijk terug halen welk merk en welke variant Jip vanaf een leeftijd van 9 maanden gegeten heeft:

Jip krijgt geen kvv. Wel krijgt hij soms wat rauwe lamspens en krijgt hij iedere dag kauwsnacks van gedroogd spier-of orgaanvlees.

Ik blijf er alert op, want ik vind de berichten wel alarmerend. Maar voor nu ben ik gerustgesteld omdat de waarden bij Jip dus prima in orde zijn.
