There are several pretty hateful comments around on social media about one of the winners of the World Dog Show in Shanghai.
A dog that was correctly judged by a respected and knowledgeable judge.
A dog, that is loved and cared for by his breeder.
We are talking about a Chinese SharPei.
Most people in western countries have never seen a Chinese SharPei, as we too often see overly wrinkled dogs with eye and other health problems. Dogs with such big muzzles one wonders if those dogs had several Botox treatments. Dogs with long and soft fur. And shockingly many people think this is correct.
We all can have our personal opinion and favorite type but seeing all those hateful comments out there by people who don’t understand the varieties of the breed make me feel very sad.
We should respect each other and we all should help our breeds health, as this is the biggest problem in western SharPeis. And maybe one way to understand our breed is to look at where it is coming from.
Yes, the Chinese SharPei does come from China. So does the dog those people are talking about.
If you don’t understand something, ask, don’t judge a dog without knowing about the breed and where it is coming from and what the breed is all about.
If you prefer the western type, do so, you won’t be judged for it. But the same respect you should give to every owner and breeder in China of Chinese SharPei.
