Those who talk about the Anatolian breed of shepherd, also known as the Kangal, refer to the animal that has now become famous in the dog breeding world for its enormous size: it is common to see photos of the beast up on its hind legs next to its owner, to emphasize its gigantic size.



In reality, the real breed of Anatolian shepherd is very different from the dog discussed in pub stories or, more recently, in Internet forums. It's a distinctive animal, no larger than any other sheep dog, but very useful to the Turkish shepherds who graze their sheep on the remote Anatolian uplands for most of the year.

Degene die ermee werken niet hoor en op shows daar zie je ook niet veel van die joekels wat er daar wint is allemaal zoals Sjon zeggen veel Turkse mensen. Die enorme honden hebben ook niets meer met de oorspronkelijke Anatool/Kangal te maken.
