The U.S. Army Medical Command hosts the Army’s CSM Jack L. Clark Jr. Army Best Medic Competition at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Sept. 24-27, 2019.
Twenty-seven two-Soldier teams from all around the world traveled to Washington state to compete in the finals to be named the Army’s Best Medic. The competition is a 72-hour arduous test of the teams’ physical and mental skills. Competitors must be agile, adaptive leaders who demonstrate mature judgement while testing collective team skills in areas of physical fitness, tactical marksmanship, leadership, warrior skills, land navigation and overall knowledge of medical, technical and tactical proficiencies through a series of hands-on tasks in a simulated operational environment.

UPDATE:

- The dog who aided the ISIS raid has an invitation to the White House “whenever he can get over here,” per senior official.
The president wants to meet him.

- The American Belgian Malinois Club has already claimed this dog as one of its own. Same breed was used during the Bin Laden raid.

- The dog “is still in theater, returned to duty,” said Gen. Mark A. Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. But the name is still classified.

Delta Force dog returns to duty after being injured in Baghdadi raid

The dog that accompanied Delta Force soldiers into Syria’s Idlib Province to hunt down Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi this weekend was only “slightly wounded” during the raid and is back on duty, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley said on Monday.
“We’re not releasing the name of the dog right now. The dog is still in theater,” Milley told reporters at the Pentagon, adding that the dog was “slightly wounded and fully recovering.”

“We’re protecting the dog’s identity,” Defense Secretary Mark Esper joked.

The dog has “returned to duty with its handler,” Milley added.

President Donald Trump said Sunday that the dog had chased Baghdadi into the tunnel where the terrorist leader then detonated a suicide vest, killing himself and three children.
"Our K-9, as they call — I call it a dog, a beautiful dog, a talented dog — was injured and brought back," Trump said.
After the Pentagon briefing, Trump tweeted a photo of the dog. "We have declassified a picture of the wonderful dog (name not declassified) that did such a GREAT JOB in capturing and killing the Leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi!" Trump tweeted.

Commando units such as Delta Force, SEAL Team 6, and the 75th Ranger Regiment typically bring specially trained dogs on their missions, often German Shepherds or Belgian Malinois.
The dogs are outfitted with military equipment, including body armor and sometimes cameras, and are trained to sniff out explosives and chase down terrorist fighters.
The dog that accompanied SEALs on the 2011 raid into Pakistan that killed Osama bin Laden was named Cairo. Last December, a 7-year-old dog named Maiko was killed along with Army Sgt. Leandro Jasso during a Ranger raid in Afghanistan.

Nederlandse hondentrainer: 'Hond die Al-Baghdadi opspoorde, was van mij'

De militaire hond die zaterdag hielp bij de jacht op IS-leider Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi en de wereld overging na een tweet van de Amerikaanse president Trump, is getraind in Nederland.
Dat zegt Marco van Hoof, directeur van Hondenadvies Centrum Nederland, tegen Editie NL. "Ik herkende hem meteen."
President Trump plaatste dit weekend een foto van de hond 'die een geweldige klus heeft geleverd bij het opsporen en doden van IS-leider Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi'.

'Die hond heeft hier gezeten'
Marco van Hoof, directeur van Hondenadvies Centrum Nederland, herkende de hond meteen. "Ik dacht: die ken ik, die hond heeft hier gezeten", zegt Van Hoof tegen Editie NL.
"Deze hond is van mijn locatie in Best op een gegeven moment via Amsterdam getransporteerd naar Amerika. Met dit als gevolg."
"Het is mannetje van vijf jaar oud. Het is een erg goede hond." Hoewel er in Amerikaanse media berichten verschenen dat het om een vrouwtje zou gaan, werd ook in de Verenigde Staten bevestigd dat de hond een reu, een mannetje, is.

Lichtgewond
Het verbaasde Van Hoof niet dat deze hond nu in Syrië voor het Amerikaanse leger wordt ingezet. "Nee, we trainen juist honden om dit soort resultaten te bereiken."
De hond raakte lichtgewond toen Al-Baghdadi zichzelf opblies, maar zou er inmiddels weer helemaal bovenop zijn. De Belgische herdershond zou zelfs alweer aan het werk zijn in Syrië.

Eric Sanders van PROcentrum, een trainingsbedrijf voor politiemensen, is niet verbaasd dat de inmiddels wereldberoemde hond in Nederland werd klaargestoomd. "Nederland is echt een hondenland. Wij zijn heel goed in het trainen van honden. Wij leveren de honden vervolgens aan het Amerikaanse leger en de politie", zegt Sanders tegen Editie NL.

Explosieven herkennen
"De toegevoegde waarde van een hond is dat ze heel goed ontwikkelde zintuigen hebben waar wij als mens niet aan kunnen tippen", zegt Sanders. "Ze kunnen geur oppikken en lokaliseren waar de dader zit. De honden die worden gebruikt voor militaire missies kunnen ook explosieven herkennen."
De herder mag binnenkort op bezoek komen bij president Trump, die het dier dolgraag zou willen ontmoeten, zou een woordvoerder van het Witte Huis hebben laten weten.
Vanavond meer over deze hond in de uitzending van Editie NL, om 18.15uur op RTL 4, met onder meer een bijdrage van Amerika-correspondent Erik Mouthaan.

'Aannemelijk'
De redactie heeft bij verschillende organisaties als de Koninklijke Nederlandse Politiehond Vereniging (KNPV), hondenopleiders in Nederland, de Amerikaanse ambassade in Nederland en de U.S. War Dogs Association gecheckt of zij het verhaal van Marco van Hoof kunnen bevestigen. Allen bevestigen zij dat het 'aannemelijk' is dat de hond uit Nederland komt, maar dat niets kan worden bevestigd.
